CAREER NOTES
As a photographer and film maker I have a long history in documenting social uprisings:
- I was in Kosovo in the Balkans after the war there in 1999 and produced a number of award-winning reports on the post-war situation for CNN World Report.
- As a documentary film producer on staff at the United Nations, in addition to many documentaries on social issues, I made two films on the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. HIDE AND SEEK IN IRAQ and SECRETS IN THE SAND were broadcast all over the world.
- When the Zapatistas took over territory in Chiapas and marched into the Cathedral in San Cristobal de las Casas I made a documentary about the emergence of the Zapatista movement called COVERING CHIAPAS.
- I covered the Nicaraguan revolution as a radio reporter for WBAI radio and the Finnish Broadcasting Company and as a photographer. I made the documentary film WOMEN IN ARMS about the Sandinista women in the revolution. It won awards in many countries and was shown extensively in the U.S. It will be re-released soon.
- I was in Argentina during the “Dirty War” there in the late 1970’s and made a one-hour documentary about the effect of the terror on the lives of ordinary people. It was shown on TV in the Scandinavian countries.
- I was at Columbia University as a journalism and film student from Finland in 1968 when students closed it down.
